LeadWharf vs Abstrakt Marketing Group: retainer or pay per lead?

For most cleaning companies LeadWharf is the better buy than Abstrakt Marketing Group. Abstrakt sells monthly packages Abstrakt lists from $5,250 for 4+ appointments, with contract length and setup fees unpublished and a 45 to 60 day ramp. LeadWharf does appointment setting too, booking the walk-through onto your calendar, or sends qualified leads already agreed to a walk-through, paid one at a time after a one-time setup, with nothing monthly and no contract.

Abstrakt Marketing Group is the name most cleaning owners meet first when they search for janitorial lead generation, and for good reason: it is a large St. Louis agency with a dedicated commercial cleaning program. LeadWharf is a pay-per-lead service founded in 2022. Both put you in front of a prospect ready to meet. Comparing LeadWharf vs Abstrakt comes down to two questions. Do you want to rent a sales team by the month, or buy qualified leads one at a time? And do you want a multi-channel marketing program, or qualified leads that have agreed to a walk-through, with recurring intent confirmed?

Every fact about Abstrakt below comes from its own website or a named review profile, each linked, and was checked as of October 2026.

How does Abstrakt work?

Abstrakt runs a managed outbound program: its sales development reps build a prospect list for your market, then reach facility managers, property owners and other decision-makers by phone, email and LinkedIn, and book qualified sales meetings for you (Abstrakt, appointment setting for commercial cleaning). It says it pre-screens each lead on location, services needed, square footage of cleanable space and decision-maker involvement.

Beyond appointment setting, the commercial cleaning page lists SEO, web design, PPC management, social media, video, branding and collateral, and even recruiting help for your cleaning crew. In practice, that makes Abstrakt closer to an outsourced sales and marketing department than a lead vendor.

Three terms stand out:

  • Exclusivity. Abstrakt says it partners with one commercial cleaning company per market.
  • Guarantee. If Abstrakt falls short of the qualified janitorial leads or appointments it promised, it says it will keep working for free until it does. Its homepage adds that a meeting which does not meet the agreed criteria does not count.
  • Ramp time. "Most partners begin seeing appointments within 45-60 days." Its Los Angeles page describes a 30-day implementation period first.

That Los Angeles page also spells out the handoff. Abstrakt sets and confirms the appointment, and your team handles the walk-through, quote and contract. A qualified appointment there means the company fits the agreed profile and territory, the right decision-makers attend, and the prospect has agreed to a specific date.

What does Abstrakt cost?

Abstrakt publishes its outbound appointment setting prices, which many agencies in this space do not. Here is what its outbound pricing packages page listed as of October 2026:

PackageMonthly priceAppointments setApprox. dialsApprox. letters
Starter$5,2504+650125
Standard$7,2508+975185
Advanced$9,25012+1,300250

A footnote says appointment counts "may vary by industry and target market." Extra sales assets are $500 each per month. The same three tiers appear on its commercial cleaning page for Los Angeles. Separately, the homepage FAQ gives a range of $5,000 to $7,000 a month to start for outbound programs and $4,000 to $8,000 a month for inbound SEO, so a company running both should expect a larger combined bill.

What Abstrakt does not publish: contract length, minimum term, setup fees and cancellation terms. Ask for those in writing before you sign.

What that means per appointment. At exactly four appointments, Starter works out to $1,312.50 each, every month, before a single contract is signed. That is our arithmetic from Abstrakt's published tiers.

What do Abstrakt Marketing Group reviews say?

Public reviews are mostly positive, with a consistent minority of complaints about the outbound program. As of October 2026:

  • Clutch shows 4.6 out of 5 across 44 reviews, with cost, quality and schedule each rated 4.6 (Clutch). Reviewers often praise communication, project management and responsiveness. The criticism that repeats is about cold calling and appointment quality, plus staff turnover. Among cleaning companies on that profile, a janitorial firm gave 5.0 in June 2023, a cleaning company gave 5.0 in December 2024 for web and email work, and another cleaning firm posted a 3.0 in September 2025, later updated to 0.5, saying contracted leads were not delivered.
  • Trustpilot shows a TrustScore of 4.1 from 52 reviews, 79% five-star and 19% one-star (Trustpilot). Trustpilot notes the company has not invited customers recently and that it has replied to every negative review. Recent one-star reviews in mid 2026 describe missed meeting commitments.

Read reviews from companies like yours, in programs like the one you would buy, and ask Abstrakt for references in cleaning.

How does LeadWharf work?

LeadWharf finds commercial cleaning prospects in your territory, writes to them in your name, and sends you only the replies that pass five checks, the last of which is an agreed walk-through. First, we agree your patch on a short call: the area, the buildings and the smallest job worth your time. Then we learn your pitch through a short form, build a dedicated and warmed email setup, find and verify the decision-makers, and run personalized outreach.

A person qualifies each reply. A lead reaches you only when the building is inside your service area, the contact has said in their own words that they want recurring cleaning at your frequency and job size, they are the named person who signs, on a direct line, they have a reason to change now, and they have already agreed to a walk-through. Within minutes, by email, text and your CRM, you get the company and building, building type and size, contact name and role, direct phone and email, what they need and how often, who cleans it now, why they are changing, when their contract ends or they want to start, and notes from the conversation in their own words. You pick a time, walk the building and write the quote. If a lead misses any check, it is never invoiced. Full detail is on how it works, and janitorial lead generation explains the approach.

The fee is a one-time setup plus a flat amount per qualified lead, quoted for your territory on a call. See pricing for how that is structured.

Where does Abstrakt fall short for a cleaning company?

  • You pay every month, results or not. Packages start at $5,250 a month for 4+ appointments (as of October 2026), with a footnote that counts "may vary by industry and target market."
  • The terms are not published. Contract length, minimum term, setup fees and cancellation terms are not on its site.
  • A slow start you pay for. Its commercial cleaning pages say most partners begin seeing appointments within 45 to 60 days, so expect at least two monthly fees before you can judge it.
  • Recurring complaints about appointment quality. On Clutch and Trustpilot, the complaints that recur are about meetings that fell short of what was agreed.
  • A generalist agency. Cleaning is one of many industries it sells SEO, PPC, web design and outbound to.

Why LeadWharf is the better choice

  • Appointment setting without the retainer. LeadWharf books the walk-through onto your calendar too, paid per appointment, not per month.
  • Or leads already agreed to a walk-through. Prefer to pick the time? Buy qualified leads instead, same five checks.
  • Pay for results, not months. Nothing monthly. A slow month costs you nothing beyond what arrived.
  • Stop when you like. No contract and no notice period, so there is no term to sit out.
  • Your company makes the first impression. The outreach goes out in your name, so the prospect knows who is coming to walk the building.
  • Recurring intent in the prospect's own words. Each lead has said they want regular cleaning at your frequency and has a reason to change now, not only agreed to a meeting.
  • Never invoiced for a miss. A lead that misses any of the five checks never appears on your bill.

How does retainer math compare with pay per lead?

Compare the two on cost per signed contract, because cost per meeting and cost per lead measure different things. Here is an illustrative way to run it with Abstrakt's own figures.

The Starter package is $5,250 a month for at least 4 appointments, so each appointment costs up to $1,312.50 if exactly four are set. Standard works out to at most about $906 each, and Advanced about $771. Abstrakt's own commercial cleaning case study reports 7 contracts closed from 58 appointments for a Tulsa contractor, roughly one in eight. At that rate, four appointments a month would close about one contract every two months, which is around $10,500 in fees per contract on Starter, before counting the 45 to 60 days of ramp. Your close rate and contract size will differ, so plug in your own numbers.

For pay per lead, the math is per qualified lead fee divided by your close rate on those leads. Ask LeadWharf for your territory's fee on a call, then run both sets of numbers through the cost per lead calculator. Our guide to pay per lead vs retainer covers who carries the risk in each model, and in-house sales vs outsourced lead generation helps if you are also weighing a hire.

What should you ask either company before signing?

  1. What is the minimum term, and what does it cost to leave early?
  2. Is there a setup fee, and what do I keep (lists, domains, content) if I stop?
  3. Exactly how is a qualified appointment or lead defined, in writing?
  4. What happens when a meeting no-shows or a contact turns out not to sign?
  5. How big is "my market", and can it be narrowed or widened?
  6. Can I speak with two current cleaning clients in a market like mine?
  7. What will I have spent in total before my first signed contract, on a realistic close rate?
